Licensed Vocational Nurse

Full Time - Sacramento CA

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Licensed Vocational Nurse at Renew Recovery Center plays an integral role in supporting patient care within a recovery-focused environment. Working under the direction of the Director of Nursing and Registered Nurses, the LVN contributes to the overall clinical workflow by providing direct care, administering medications, monitoring client health, and supporting a safe, therapeutic setting. The LVN also serves as a professional role model to Behavioral Health Technicians, promoting teamwork and consistency in clinical routines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current LVN license in good standing with the State of California
  • Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience, preferably in behavioral health or substance use treatment
  • Current CPR (BLS) and First Aid certification
  • Successful completion of required trainings and annual competencies
  • Understanding of detox protocols and familiarity with co-occurring disorders is preferred

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in accordance with established policies and clinical protocols
  • Complete nursing assessments and document vital signs, behavioral observations, and changes in condition
  • Monitor for symptoms of withdrawal or medical distress and promptly report to the RN or provider
  • Administer medications with accuracy and attention to patient safety, document responses and side effects
  • Assist with development and implementation of individualized care plans
  • Facilitate patient education on health and recovery topics
  • Support clients through the admission process, including orientation and intake assessments
  • Maintain detailed and timely documentation in the electronic health record system
  • Ensure infection control and confidentiality protocols are consistently followed
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to ensure consistent care across all shifts
  • Assist in de-escalation and crisis response under supervision, using trauma-informed techniques
  • Provide verbal shift reports and communicate important clinical information to incoming staff
  • Maintain contraband awareness and contribute to overall unit safety and order
  • Identify and report suspected co-occurring behavioral health concerns

  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource to Behavioral Health Technicians regarding client care protocols and daily routines

  • Participate actively in team meetings, case discussions, and performance improvement efforts
  • Uphold a culture of safety, respect, and compassion within the treatment environment

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Attend all required in-service trainings, safety drills, and staff meetings
  • Adhere to professional standards for conduct, attire, punctuality, and boundaries
  • Protect the confidentiality of clients, staff, and facility operations
  • Engage in continuing education to maintain and expand clinical knowledge
  • Assist with other nursing or clinical duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Direct interaction with clients in detox and residential care settings
  • May require lifting up to 30 pounds, frequent standing/walking, and use of proper body mechanics
  • Exposure to medical procedures, biohazards, and emotionally challenging client situations
  • Must remain flexible and composed during emergencies, transitions, or high-demand shifts

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Consistently reports to scheduled shifts and follows punctuality expectations
  • Avoids unscheduled absences, particularly those surrounding scheduled days off
  • Provides appropriate notice and follows call-out protocols for all absences
  • Returns from breaks on time and maintains consistent shift coverage
  • Maintains attendance that supports client safety and staff continuity
